Heh. In Australia “rooting” is a slang term for having sex. (Over here you don’t “root” for your team, you “barrack” for them.) So David Freeman’s discussion of the importance of “Rooting Interest” might have had an interesting unintended meaning to an Australian audience.

Yes, I too chuckled reading Crawford quoting Freeman’s “a character with Rooting Interest is one with whom we empathize…”
