A June of Interactive Story Gatherings

by Andrew Stern · , 8:19 am

June is shaping up to be a great month for discussing interactive story with like-minded folks. Chris Crawford still has room available at his intimate Phrontisterion conference (now in its 5th year), June 26-27 just outside gorgeous Jacksonville, Oregon. You can even camp on his property, I believe. Expected attendees this year include Gordon Walton, Justin Hall and Celia Pearce. Email Chris for more info.

The program for the 2004 Technologies for Interactive Digital Storytelling and Entertainment (TIDSE) conference is now online. TIDSE will be held June 24-26 in Darmstadt, Germany. I attended last year, it was an enjoyable, informative gathering and a beautiful town. The keynote will be given by Norman Badler of Penn. This year’s presentations include titles such as “Emotional Characters for Automatic Plot Creation”, “Stepping into the interactive Drama”, “Conceptual Models for Interactive Digital Storytelling”, “Narrative, Game Play and Alternative Time Structures for Virtual Environments”, “A Toolkit for Authoring Non-linear Storytelling Environments Using Mixed Reality”, “Transferring Game Mastering Laws to Interactive Digital Storytelling”, and “Natural Language Understanding in Façade: Surface-text Processing”.

And here’s another reminder about the Digital Storytelling Festival, June 10-12 in the majestic and storied surroundings of Sedona, Arizona.

The narr@tive: Digital Storytelling conference is supposed to start tomorrow, in my neighborhood, but I can’t seem to find any details re: time/location.

Perhaps it is a secret conference.
